Caring at Christmas

Christmas is associated with fellowship, good food and beautiful Christmas trees. Unfortunately that is not the case for everyone. At Salvation Army in Örnsköldsvik all are welcome to celebrate Christmas regardless of religion or background.

The Salvation Army, located on Läroverksgatan in central Örnsköldsvik, has for the first time opened its doors for Christmas lunch on Christmas Eve. Between 11.00 and 14.00 all are invited to enjoy the different kinds of Christmas foods, for example julskinka, janssons frestelse and different kinds of desserts.

On top of the good food that is free,  visitors  will enjoy beautiful piano music and christmas songs in a warm social atmosphere.

Annita Allansdotter, a salvation soldier, says their activities include organizing soup lunches, church services and helping children with  homework. The reason why the Salvation Army is  open on Christmas Eve is that there is a need for such gatherings as there are many people who are alone and some have poor economy such that they can not afford Christmas food and Christmas presents.

This is the Salvation Army:

"The Salvation Army is an international movement, an evangelical denomination within the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its service has its source in the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and without distinction, to meet human needs in his name``
