Örnsköldsviks United Nations Association

Örnsköldsviks United Nations Association has been funding various projects in Zimbabwe for the past 23 years.

Under the guidance of  the chairman, Stellan Bäcklund ,the association has built primary schools in remote areas like Bangira located in eastern Zimbabwe and in the Mhondoro district. In 2006 the association worked together with a local hospital in Bangira and held  informative HIV \ AIDS  serminars with the local people.

Since 1997 the association has been supporting many street kids living in childrens homes like Danai Childrens Home through sending them to school , buying them school uniforms and books. In Biriiri, northern  Zimbabwe, the association drilled a 6 km long borehole that now serves as a watersource to many.

Stellan Bäcklund says the organisation is run by  funds generated from ``Operation Sister School``where seven schools namely Sörliden skolan, Gene skolan, Bjästa skolan, Änget skolan, Husum skolan, Själevad skolan and Höglund skolan raise money in their respective schools. In 2011 alone the schools raised about SEK90 000.Money from the municipality and from donations by a  generous public also helps drive the association.
